Rubber vs. Acrylic Adhesive

Rubber based adhesives reach its maximum adhesion strength quicker than acrylic - meaning that the adhesive flows a little faster than acrylic adhesive. However, rubber based adhesives have a lower tolerance for heat than acrylic based adhesives. As the temperature increases, the adhesive will become “runnier” and the tape will start sliding on the surface. Rubber based adhesives are recommended for indoor applications where the temperature will remain around room temperature.

Acrylic based adhesives are slower to reach maximum adhesion strength but have a higher maximum adhesion strength and better tolerance for heat than rubber based adhesives. While acrylic based adhesives will behave similar to rubber based adhesives when the temperature rises, the degeneration of performance begins at a higher temperature than rubber based adhesives. Acrylic based adhesives are recommended for indoor applications that require operating temperatures higher than room temperature.
