5 Tips for Better Clean Room Gowning

17th May 2016

It may come as no surprise that a majority of clean room contaminants begin with working employees. With the help of a well-designed gowning area, specialty clean room garments and a stern gowning procedure, particle expansion and contamination can be minimized. Below are five tips for maintaining a safe and efficient gowning routine:

1. Start From The Top

An important rule of thumb when gowning is to start from the top and work your way down. The order in which you dress yourself has a direct affect on cleanliness, and a head-to-toe procedure will safeguard against polluted particles falling on clean garments.

2. Keep It Hands Free

A majority of clean room contamination can occur when dirty or ungloved hands come in contact with a garment. Installing hands-free sinks and hand dryers can be very helpful when it comes to keeping your clean room sterile. If you contaminate a small surface area upon gowning, a sterile clean room wiper should be used immediately over the infected area. At SOS Clean Room, we offer a variety of specialty clean room wipes to suite your sanitation needs, including the TX1009 Alphawipe Polyester Cleanroom Wiper.

3. Cover Up

Any openings in clean room clothing must be covered up to ensure maximum cleanliness. Make sure all clean room personnel are properly trained on how to seal gaps between clothing.

4. Create Designated Sections Of Sanitation

All gowning rooms should have properly designated sections of sanitation to avoid accidental contamination. The three most commonly designated areas in clean rooms are: the non-sterile area, the pre-gowning area right outside the room, and the sterile or clean area.

5. Move Slowly

Throughout the final stages of gowning, it’s beneficial to move slowly and reduce unnecessary motion. By conserving motion in a clean room, you can actually reduce tremulous air that may stir up contaminated particles.
