Hazards Within a Cleanroom

Posted by SOS CleanRoom on 1st Mar 2017

Cleanrooms are used for a variety of projects, but the work that is done in these rooms is what makes strides in science and knowledge for a variety of fields. At SOS CleanRoom, we are able to provide high quality supplies to facilities that utilize cleanrooms, and a good majority of these contribute to the safety that goes into the cleanrooms. The products that we have provide safety to both the people working in the cleanroom and also the artifacts and chemicals that need not be contaminated. With so much sensitivity to temperature, chemicals, materials and more, we wanted to go over some of the most common hazards that happen in cleanrooms.

Electrical Outlets

Outlets are a component of any room that needs to be taken seriously and cared for, even in common rooms within a house. When it comes to a cleanroom, it is extremely important that outlets are properly cared for and sealed. Depending on what it is that you’re working within inside of the cleanroom, you are going to want to make sure outlets are secure. From chemicals that can get into the outlet to bugs or animals that can get hurt or get into the socket, you’re going to want to avoid the chances of this happening, and that’s only possible by sealing the sockets.

The Wrong Apparel

We’ve talked in a few of our blogs about how important it is that employees in the cleanroom are protected in the proper gowning so as not to contaminate any of the artifacts, chemicals or space within the cleanroom. Some of the most common hazards happen because of a lack of gowning to provide the barrier needed when working in cleanrooms. This isn’t a hazard that an employee is likely to endure, but it is one that can compromise a cleanroom or create a reaction because a lack of barrier occurred. This is easily one of the biggest things that employees could do in order to avoid a hazard in their space.

Entering & Leaving a Room

Cleanrooms are intended to provide a controlled space, so entering and exiting the cleanroom is another time where the precautions that you take are going to make a difference. Depending on the facility that you are working in, there will likely be a pass through area that will ensure that no contaminants come in or out of the space. This space is intended to catch this, but that requires proper use in order for it, if you’re not sure how you should be the walk through space, then it’s worth getting more information and training on.
