These 3M allergen swabs are designed to provide fast, accurate feedback on whether cleaning has been performed to a satisfactory standard by detecting trace amounts of protein residues. Using the swab is easy: a heat block calibrated to 55°C ± 1°C with wells supporting 24 mm x 1.5 mm tubes is required. For best results, use a partial immersion or digital thermocouple thermometer rather than a total immersion type. Interpreting results is straightforward—compare the swab and solution color against the label to detect allergenic protein presence.
Validated for a wide range of allergens—including egg, milk, gluten, soy, peanut, almond, and buckwheat—3M Clean Trace Surface Protein Allergen swabs are ideal for use in regulated production environments. They require no refrigeration and are shelf-stable at room temperature (25°C / 77°F), making them easy to store and deploy as needed.
These allergen swabs feature a user-friendly “swab-click-read” process with a visible color change indicator. Results appear in just 15 minutes and are semi-quantitative, with four levels of color indicating varying degrees of surface contamination. The deeper and quicker the purple color develops, the higher the allergen level detected.
With no need for additional instrumentation, these 3M allergen swabs can be used with minimal training and are easily integrated into HACCP programs for allergen and hygiene control.
