SCHOTT KL 300 LED Fiber Optic Light Source (LED Illuminator) — 100–240V

The SCHOTT KL 300 LED is a compact, convection-cooled (fanless) fiber-optic light source designed for stereo microscopy, inspection, and routine QA work where stable illumination and a small footprint matter. It delivers up to 80 lm with 0–100% continuous dimming, and uses a universal 100–240V wide-range power supply for global lab deployment.

Why this model: KL 300 LED is commonly selected for bench microscopes and inspection stations because it is quiet (no fan), low-heat at the part (fiber delivery), and straightforward to standardize across multiple workcells.

Specifications:
  • Model: SCHOTT KL 300 LED fiber optic light source
  • Part number: 120.300
  • Maximum light intensity: 80 lm (LED)
  • Dimming: 0–100% continuous
  • Cooling: Convection cooled (fanless)

SCHOTT KL 300 LED (120.300) — Application Guidance, Setup Notes, and Accessory Selection
1) What the KL 300 LED Is (in practical terms)

The KL 300 LED is a compact fiber-optic illuminator intended for stereo microscopy and inspection. Light is delivered through a fiber light guide so the source can remain off the most sensitive viewing area—reducing heat at the work surface and improving workstation ergonomics.

The KL 300’s fanless convection cooling supports quiet operation and reduces localized airflow disturbance around inspection zones.

2) Output & Control: Why 0–100% dimming matters

The KL 300 LED provides up to 80 lm with continuous 0–100% dimming. This allows operators to tune illumination to reduce glare and increase contrast—then standardize settings in work instructions for repeatability.

3) Selecting the right light guide (the decision that drives results)

Rule of thumb: Choose the light guide geometry first (how you need the light to hit the part). Then choose length and stiffness based on reach, workstation layout, and repeatability.

KL 300 Only — Gooseneck (rigid “Flex & Stay”): best for repeatable positioning and shadow control.

KL 300 Only — Flexible (M-PVC): best for reach and frequent repositioning.

Annular / ring illumination: best for minimizing shadows and improving uniformity.

4) Mounting & workstation integration

Select the correct bracket to prevent drift, control cabling, and maintain consistent illumination geometry.

Base option

Column/stand brackets (choose by column diameter)

5) Best-practice illumination techniques (inspection & microscopy)
  • Cross-light for defects: dual arms from opposing angles reveal scratches, residue, and edge chips.
  • Reduce glare: dim first, then re-aim to “skim” the surface instead of shining straight down.
  • Lock geometry: mark/record stand height and arm orientation for repeatable setups across shifts.
6) Controlled environments note (cleanroom / sensitive work areas)

The KL 300 is not a cleanroom consumable and is not sterile. It is often used at controlled workstations; the fanless design can help reduce localized airflow disturbance. Final suitability depends on your SOP, cleaning methods, and placement relative to critical zones.

7) Quick troubleshooting (common field issues)
  • Uneven illumination: verify the guide is fully seated and not sharply kinked; re-aim or shorten working distance.
  • Not bright enough: consider dual or ring illumination to improve usable light at the field.
  • Drifting aim: switch to gooseneck or improve mounting rigidity.
