Product Description
Low-voltage halogen capsule lamp (HLX) for microscopes, medical fiber optics, and precision optical illumination.

Overview

The Osram / Sylvania 64261 HLX is a precision 30W, 12V quartz tungsten-halogen capsule built for compact optical systems that depend on consistent illumination and repeatable lamp geometry. This lamp uses a G6.35 bi-pin base and is commonly identified by LIF code M/130. It is frequently specified in microscopes, inspection optics, and medical fiber optic illuminators where stable light quality is part of the instrument’s performance. OSRAM Americas: 54247.

Key Highlights
  • Electrical: 30W, 12V (low-voltage)
  • Base: G6.35 bi-pin
  • Family: HLX low-voltage halogen (no reflector)
  • Nominal Luminous Flux: 750 lm
  • Color Temperature: 3300K
  • Average Life: 50 hours (nominal)
  • Burning Position: Universal
  • Cross IDs: 64261 / 54247 / NAED 54023 / M/130
Typical Applications
  • Microscopes and laboratory optics
  • Medical fiber optic light sources and examination/inspection illumination
  • Instrument and inspection systems requiring compact, repeatable filament geometry
  • Special luminaires designed for low-voltage halogen capsules
Selection Tip (What To Match First)
For correct replacement, match 12V, 30W, and base G6.35—then verify the industry identifier M/130 (and cross IDs like 54247 or NAED 54023). Lamps that “fit” can still differ in geometry, life rating, or optical performance.
Handling Tip
Halogen lamps run hot and are sensitive to surface contamination. Avoid touching the quartz with bare hands. Use clean nitrile gloves and/or a lint-free wipe. If contamination occurs, clean with IPA and allow to dry fully before operation. Operate only in suitable enclosed fixtures designed for halogen capsules.
Industry Update (Branding & Supply Continuity)
Effective March 1, 2026, the OSRAM Entertainment & Industry business in the United States transitions to Ushio America, Inc. as the legal contracting entity under Ushio ownership. Customers may notice changes to branding, labeling, packaging, or invoicing entity even when the lamp specification remains the same. SOSCleanroom will continue to support these lamps and can help qualify continuity by part number and critical specs (64261 / 54247 / 12V / 30W / G6.35 / M/130).
Need help selecting the right product?
Always confirm required voltage (12V), wattage (30W), base type (G6.35), and cross ID (M/130 / 54247 / NAED 54023) prior to installation.

How It’s Made (Quartz Halogen Capsule + HLX Gas Fill)

64261 HLX is a quartz tungsten-halogen capsule: a tungsten filament is operated at high temperature inside a quartz envelope containing halogen chemistry. In properly designed fixtures, the halogen regenerative cycle helps reduce envelope darkening and supports more consistent light output over the rated life.

HLX/XENOPHOT versions are engineered for higher luminous efficacy compared to standard low-voltage halogen lamps of similar wattage, which is why these lamps are common in optical instruments where brightness per watt and repeatability matter.

Compare & Contrast (Why “G6.35 12V” Still Isn’t Enough)
Many capsule lamps share the same G6.35 base and similar envelope size, but differ in wattage, filament geometry, and optical behavior. In microscopes and fiber optic illuminators, these differences can change coupling efficiency and illumination uniformity. For continuity, qualify by M/130 (or 54247/NAED 54023) in addition to 12V / 30W / G6.35.
Common Premature Failure Causes (Field Notes)
Most premature failures trace back to finger oils/contamination, socket wear/poor contact pressure, or over-voltage. Because this is a 12V lamp, verify transformer output under load and confirm the socket is rated for temperature and current. Replace worn sockets to prevent resistive heating at the pins.
Industry Update (Ushio & ENI Continuity)
Effective March 1, 2026, the OSRAM Entertainment & Industry business within the United States transitions to Ushio America, Inc. as the new legal contracting entity under Ushio ownership. During the transition, customers may see updates to branding/packaging while lamp specifications remain consistent. SOSCleanroom will continue supporting these lamps and qualifying continuity by part number and critical specifications.
