Product Description
High-output stage & studio halogen lamp (ANSI BTL) for theatre, TV/film, and professional photography fixtures.

Overview

The Osram / Sylvania BTL is a professional 500W, 120V quartz tungsten-halogen lamp engineered for stage & theatre, studio / TV / film, and other continuous lighting environments where stable color and reliable performance matter. It uses a P28s (medium prefocus) base and delivers strong output with imaging-friendly 3050K color. (OSRAM Americas product number: 54685.)

Key Highlights
  • Electrical: 500W, 120V (AC)
  • ANSI Code: BTL
  • Base: P28s (medium prefocus)
  • Nominal Output: 11,000 lm
  • Color Temperature: 3050K
  • CRI: Ra 100
  • Average Life: 750 hours (nominal)
  • Filament: C-13D
Typical Applications
  • Stage & theatre fixtures using ANSI BTL / P28s lamps
  • Studio, TV, & film lighting (continuous)
  • Professional photography lighting heads
  • Clubs / venues using compatible halogen luminaires
Selection Tip (Prevent Mis-Matches)
“500W halogen” is not specific enough to match the correct lamp. For proper replacement, qualify by ANSI BTL, 120V, and P28s. Similar-looking lamps may differ in base, filament geometry, light center length, or rated life.
Handling Tip
Halogen lamps operate at high temperature and are sensitive to contamination. Avoid touching the quartz with bare hands. Use clean nitrile gloves and/or a lint-free wipe, and allow full cool-down before removal.
Industry Update (Branding & Supply Continuity)
Ushio is scheduled to assume the U.S. Entertainment & Industry (ENI) lamp business as the legal contracting entity effective March 1, 2026. During this transition, customers may notice changes to branding, labeling, packaging, or invoicing entity even when the underlying lamp specification remains the same. SOSCleanroom will continue to support these lamps and can help qualify continuity by part number and critical specs (ANSI BTL, 120V, 500W, P28s).
Need help selecting the right product?
Always confirm fixture voltage (120V), ANSI BTL specification, and base type (P28s medium prefocus) prior to installation.

Lamp Science (Why Halogen Looks the Way It Does)

The BTL is a quartz tungsten-halogen lamp: a tungsten filament is operated at high temperature inside a quartz envelope with halogen chemistry. The halogen regenerative cycle helps reduce quartz darkening over time, supporting more consistent output and color compared with non-halogen incandescent sources. These lamps are also fully dimmable, with the expected amber shift as filament temperature decreases.

In stage and studio fixtures, the filament geometry (C-13D) and the lamp’s light center length (LCL) help determine where the luminous source “sits” relative to reflectors and lenses. That’s why matching by ANSI code and LCL is critical for consistent beam shape and focus.

Cross-Reference (Common Market Equivalents)
BTL is widely cross-referenced across entertainment lighting catalogs. Common equivalents include: OSRAM/Sylvania 54685 (BTL) and Ushio 1000083 (BTL / JCS120V-500W). Always qualify substitutions by ANSI BTL, 120V, P28s, and (when your fixture is sensitive) LCL.
Safety & Fixture Requirements
Halogen lamps may only be operated in suitable luminaires designed with protective mechanisms (shields/grids) to ensure that, in the unlikely event of lamp bursting, no parts/shards can escape and that during operation no ultraviolet radiation can escape. These lamps also generate high heat—maintain proper clearances and follow fixture manufacturer guidance.
Industry Update (Ushio & ENI Continuity)
Ushio is scheduled to assume the U.S. Entertainment & Industry (ENI) lamp business as the legal contracting entity effective March 1, 2026. During the transition, branding or packaging updates may occur even when lamp specifications remain unchanged. SOSCleanroom will continue supporting these lamps and qualifying continuity by part number and critical specifications.
