Product Description
Stage & studio single-ended halogen lamp (ANSI EHD) for theatre, TV/film, and professional photography fixtures.

Overview

The Osram / Sylvania EHD is a professional 500W, 120V quartz tungsten-halogen lamp engineered for stage & theatre, studio / TV / film, and other continuous lighting systems where consistent color and reliable output matter. It uses a G9.5 bi-pin base and delivers strong output with a compact, fixture-friendly single-ended format. (OSRAM Americas product number: 54508.)

Key Highlights
  • Electrical: 500W, 120V (AC)
  • ANSI Code: EHD
  • Base: G9.5 (2-pin)
  • Nominal Output: 10,600 lm
  • Color Temperature: 3000K
  • CRI: Ra 100
  • Average Life: 2000 hours (nominal)
  • Filament: CC-8
Typical Applications
  • Stage & theatre luminaires specifying ANSI EHD / G9.5
  • Studio, TV, & film lighting (continuous)
  • Professional photography lighting heads
  • Venue and entertainment fixtures requiring 500W / 120V single-ended halogen capsules
Selection Tip (Prevent Mis-Matches)
“500W halogen” is not specific enough to match the correct lamp. For proper replacement, qualify by ANSI EHD, 120V, and G9.5. Similar-looking lamps can differ in light-center geometry, filament type, or rated life.
Handling Tip
Halogen lamps run hot and are sensitive to contamination. Avoid touching the quartz with bare hands. Use clean nitrile gloves and/or a lint-free wipe, and allow full cool-down before removal.
Industry Update (Branding & Supply Continuity)
Effective March 1, 2026, the OSRAM Entertainment & Industry business in the United States transitions to Ushio America, Inc. as the legal contracting entity under Ushio ownership. Customers may notice changes to branding, labeling, packaging, or invoicing entity even when the underlying lamp specification remains the same. SOSCleanroom will continue to support these lamps and can help qualify continuity by part number and critical specs (EHD, 120V, 500W, G9.5).
Need help selecting the right product?
Always confirm fixture voltage (120V), ANSI EHD specification, and base type (G9.5) prior to installation.

Lamp Science (Why EHD Works in Stage & Studio)

The EHD is a quartz tungsten-halogen source built around a compact coiled-coil (CC-8) filament. In entertainment fixtures, the lamp is part of the optical system: filament geometry and light center length (LCL) help determine where the luminous source sits relative to the reflector and lens train. Matching by ANSI code and LCL helps preserve beam shape, focus, and photometric performance.

Halogen chemistry supports the regenerative “halogen cycle,” helping reduce envelope darkening and supporting more consistent output across the rated life. Because these lamps run hot, socket condition and contact pressure at the G9.5 pins are critical—loose contacts can cause resistive heating and shorten lamp and socket life.

Compare & Contrast (EHD vs “Other 500W G9.5 Lamps”)
Lamps can share the same G9.5 base and wattage yet differ in voltage, filament design, and LCL. For continuity, qualify by ANSI EHD + 120V + 500W + (when fixture-sensitive) LCL 2.352 in.
Cross-Reference (Common Market Equivalents)
EHD is widely cross-referenced across entertainment lighting catalogs. A common equivalent is Ushio 1000287 (EHD / JCV120V-500WBH). Always validate ANSI code, voltage, base, and (when required) LCL before substituting.
Safety & Fixture Requirements
Halogen lamps may only be operated in suitable luminaires designed with protective mechanisms (shields/grids) to ensure that, in the unlikely event of lamp bursting, no parts/shards can escape and that during operation no ultraviolet radiation can escape. These lamps generate high heat—follow fixture manufacturer guidance and maintain proper clearances.
Industry Update (Ushio & ENI Continuity)
Effective March 1, 2026, the OSRAM Entertainment & Industry business in the United States transitions to Ushio America, Inc. as the legal contracting entity. During this transition, branding/packaging updates may occur even when specifications remain unchanged. SOSCleanroom will continue supporting these lamps and qualifying continuity by part number and critical specifications.
