Product Description
Reliable, high-precision halogen lighting for medical and scientific instruments.
SOSCleanroom
Overview

The Osram / Sylvania HLX 64260 is a 30W, 12V low-voltage halogen lamp built for stable, precisely positioned illumination in demanding environments such as microscopy, medical, dental, and scientific equipment. It uses HLX/XENOPHOT design principles to support consistent output and dependable performance where accurate light placement matters. SKU: HLX 64260 (54022).

Key Highlights
  • Electrical: 12V, 30W (instrument-grade low voltage)
  • Base: PG22 / Prefocus 2-pin for repeatable alignment
  • Form: T3; compact lamp envelope for optical assemblies
  • Dimensions: overall length 40mm; LCL 14mm
  • Orientation: universal burning position
Typical Applications
  • Microscope illuminators and optical instruments
  • Medical, dental, and ophthalmic exam equipment (slit-lamp style systems)
  • Lab and analytical lighting where consistent beam alignment is required
Handling Tip
To minimize premature lamp failure, avoid direct skin contact with the glass. Handle with clean nitrile gloves and/or a lint-free wipe. In controlled environments, a cleanroom-grade lint-free wipe is preferred to reduce residue and particulates.

The Science: How a Halogen Bulb Produces Light
A halogen lamp is a type of incandescent source. When electrical current flows through its tungsten filament, the filament’s resistance converts electrical energy into heat. At operating temperature, the filament becomes white-hot and emits continuous-spectrum light (visible light plus infrared) from thermal radiation.
What makes it “halogen” is the fill gas: an inert gas plus a small amount of halogen (typically iodine or bromine) inside a quartz (or high-silica) envelope. During operation, tiny amounts of tungsten evaporate from the filament. In a standard incandescent bulb, that tungsten can deposit on the glass (blackening) and reduce light output. In a halogen lamp, the halogen reacts with evaporated tungsten to form tungsten-halide compounds, which circulate and then break apart near the hotter filament region—effectively returning tungsten back to the filament. This “halogen cycle” helps maintain lumen maintenance (less blackening) and supports higher filament temperatures for a brighter, whiter output— but it also means the lamp runs hot and must be handled carefully to avoid surface contamination and thermal stress.
Industry Update: ams OSRAM ENI Business → Ushio (Expected Close by End of March 2026)
Ushio announced it entered into a share and asset transfer agreement to acquire ams OSRAM’s Entertainment & Industry Lamps (ENI) business, with closing anticipated by the end of March 2026.
What this means for buyers: During and after the transition, customers may see changes in branding, part-number presentation, packaging, origin labeling, or channel availability. To reduce risk, qualify replacements by electrical specs (V/W), base type, and critical dimensions, and retain the manufacturer code (e.g., HLX 64260 / 54022) in your maintenance records.
Replacement & Handling Notes
  • Match voltage and base: This is a 12V lamp with a PG22 prefocus 2-pin base—avoid substitutions that alter fit or filament position.
  • Keep the envelope clean: Avoid fingerprints/residue that can create localized hot spots. Use clean nitrile gloves and/or a lint-free wipe.
  • Optical alignment matters: Prefocus bases support repeatable filament positioning—important for microscopes and slit-lamp style optics.
Cleanroom Considerations

In controlled environments, treat lamp changes like a minor maintenance event: minimize packaging debris, use low-lint handling materials, and keep the lamp envelope free of oils and particulates prior to powering the instrument.

For best results, stage clean nitrile gloves and a cleanroom-grade lint-free wipe during installation to reduce contamination risk and prevent residue transfer to the lamp.
