Product Description
Microprocessor-controlled electronic power supply for operating DC short-arc mercury and xenon lamps (50W / 75W / 100W ranges).

Overview

The Ushio SmartArc™ HBX-76 is a compact, intelligent electronic power supply engineered to operate DC short-arc mercury and xenon lamps in the 50W / 75W / 100W class. Digital power management and microprocessor control deliver stable output over lamp life, while built-in protection features support reliable ignition and safe operation in demanding scientific, medical, and capital-equipment environments. Common item: 5001474.

Key Highlights
  • Lamp Compatibility: Short-arc mercury & xenon DC lamps (50W / 75W / 100W selectable)
  • Input Power: Wide-range 90–264VAC (PFC + built-in EMI filtering)
  • Ignition: High-voltage start (on-board ignitor version = HBX-76)
  • Protection: Short-circuit + arc-to-ground protection, auto shut-off on end-of-life/failure
  • Thermal Control: Built-in cooling fan; 90°C thermal shutoff feature
  • Aux Output: Regulated 12V / 0.2A fan drive (available when lamp is operating)
Typical Applications
  • Scientific / medical illumination systems using DC short-arc sources
  • Optical instruments and analytical equipment requiring stable arc operation
  • Capital equipment platforms with interlocked lamp housings
  • OEM integrations where compact size + reliable digital control are required
Selection Tip (HBX-76 vs HBX-76i)
HBX-76 is available with an on-board ignitor. For installations that require a separated ignitor module, the HBX-76i variant supports an off-board ignitor. Match your system architecture, wiring, and enclosure layout accordingly.
Safety Notice (High Voltage / Arc Systems)
Short-arc lamp power systems can generate high voltage during ignition and high current during operation. Install only in properly grounded, interlocked enclosures designed for arc discharge lamps. Follow OEM wiring, shielding, and service procedures.
Industry Update (Ushio & ENI Continuity)
Ushio has signed an agreement to acquire ams OSRAM’s Entertainment & Industry Lamps (ENI) business, with closing expected by the end of March 2026. During transitions, customers may see branding or packaging updates. SOSCleanroom continues to support specialty lamps and related components and can assist with continuity validation.

System Engineering Notes (Why HBX-76 Matters)

Short-arc discharge lamps require controlled current regulation to stabilize the arc, plus high-voltage ignition to strike the lamp reliably. HBX-76 integrates microprocessor control and digital power management to maintain stable operating conditions across lamp life while monitoring fault states.

The HBX platform also includes protective logic (short circuit and arc-to-ground protection) and an end-of-life cutoff strategy to reduce risk of unstable operation in aged lamps. For OEM integrations, confirm enclosure airflow, grounding strategy, and interlock logic before deployment.

Mechanical / Integration Reference
Nominal dimensions: 128 mm (L) × 86 mm (W) × 41 mm (H). Typical weight: 0.41 kg. Maintain the specified temperature test point at or below manufacturer guidance (case surface near output U-profile) and keep the power supply below 70°C where indicated.
Safety & Service Notes
HV ignition circuits can exceed kilovolt-level potentials during start. De-energize and discharge per OEM procedure before service. Ensure correct protective earth bonding, shield HV leads, and use only approved connectors/cable assemblies for arc discharge systems.
