TX720B Foam-Covered Cotton Cleanroom Swab (Wood Handle) — 100 ppi Polyurethane Foam Over USP-Grade Cotton

Texwipe TX720B is a highly sorbent, low-linting (no swab is truly ‘zero-lint’ in every process condition), nonabrasive foam-covered cotton cleanroom swab engineered for controlled cleaning, environmental sampling, and precise solvent use in hard-to-reach areas. The swab tip uses open-cell 100 ppi polyurethane foam over 100% USP-grade cotton and is thermally sealed to support consistent surface contact and improved absorption capacity versus cotton alone. A long hardwood handle provides reach and control for ports, housings, corners, and recesses where wipes cannot maintain geometry—and it is commonly used for cleaning with solvents such as IPA or acetone, plus application/removal of lubricants and ointments.

Process note: TX720B is typically chosen for pickup strength and cushioned contact. If your process is highly residue-sensitive (ions/NVR), qualify the swab to the cleaning step (gross removal vs. final pass) and control wetness/technique to avoid streaking or redeposition.

About the Manufacturer:

Texwipe (an ITW company) manufactures cleanroom swabs as process tools—built to consistent tolerances using high-precision automated processes, with lot coding for traceability and quality control. In the spun swab portfolio, material selection (USP-grade cotton, polyurethane foam pore structure), bonding/thermal sealing, and packaging configuration are engineered to support repeatable cleaning and sampling outcomes in real operator workflows.

SOSCleanroom (SOS) supports that discipline with a close working relationship focused on continuity of supply, correct packaging configuration (inner-bag control for point-of-use staging), and dependable documentation handoff—so teams can standardize TX720B foam-covered cotton cleanroom swabs with predictable performance and procurement reliability.

TX720B Features:
  • Open-cell 100 ppi polyurethane foam over 100% USP-grade cotton for high sorbency and cushioned contact
  • Thermally sealed foam-covered cotton tip (constructed to support nonabrasive cleaning on many surfaces)
  • Foam-wrapped cotton tip provides improved absorption capacity over cotton alone
  • Long hardwood handle for reach, control, and access into recessed areas
  • Excellent chemical and heat resistance positioning for wood-handled swabs; autoclave-safe handling noted for dry heat and steam
  • Lot coded for ease of traceability and quality control
  • Bag configuration supports point-of-use staging: 10 inner bags of 50 swabs inside each 500-count bag
TX720B Benefits:
  • Cushioned cleaning + strong pickup: Foam-first contact helps moderate drag while the cotton core supports soil retention for residues, powders, lubricants, and ointments
  • Controlled solvent use in tight areas: Commonly selected for IPA and acetone wiping where a wipe cannot maintain geometry (verify compatibility to your chemistry and SOP)
  • Reach and pressure control: Long wooden handle supports stable hand positioning on corners, ports, housings, and hard-to-reach surfaces
  • Traceability for investigations: Lot coding supports troubleshooting when residues, films, or sampling results trend out-of-pattern
  • Practical staging in controlled areas: Inner-bag structure helps reduce unnecessary exposure of the full quantity during routine work
Common Applications:
  • Environmental sampling and surface sampling
  • Cleaning with solvents such as IPA or acetone (spot cleaning, recesses, tight wipe points)
  • Picking up fine powders in corners, seams, and small features
  • Application of lubricants and ointments
  • Removal of lubricants, ointments, and stubborn films from hard-to-reach areas
Best-Practice Use:
  • Wet control: Dampen the foam tip as needed for the task—avoid over-wetting that can drive pooling, wicking, or streaking as solvent flashes.
  • Protect the bond line: Do not soak until the wetting front reaches the tip/shaft interface; avoid twisting torque and do not pry in tight joints.
  • One direction, one job: Use straight-line strokes; do not “scrub” back-and-forth in a way that redistributes contamination.
  • Change-out triggers: Replace the swab when visibly loaded, when drag increases, or when residue begins to smear rather than lift.
  • Step discipline: Use TX720B where pickup strength and cushioned contact are needed; qualify a lower-extractables option for final-pass work if your process is ion/NVR-sensitive.
Selection Notes (TX720B vs. Other Options)
  • Foam-over-cotton vs. all-synthetic swabs: Choose TX720B when cushioned contact and strong pickup matter for films, pastes, powders, or lubricants. If your process is highly residue-limited, consider qualifying an all-synthetic cleanroom swab for final-pass steps.
  • Autoclave-safe vs. sterile: TX720B is non-sterile. If your workflow requires validated sterility at point-of-use, select a validated sterile swab program (sterile options are available within the broader Texwipe spun swab series).
  • Geometry fit: The 11.8 mm x 10.0 mm head cross-section is suited to corners and recesses; size swab head and handle length to reduce variability in stroke count and applied pressure.

TX720B foam-covered cotton swab: high-absorbency pickup with a softer contact surface for residue cleanup
Last reviewed: Jan. 6, 2026 |  Audience: contamination control, maintenance, general operations

Texwipe TX720B is a foam-covered cotton cleanroom swab designed for high liquid absorption and strong residue pickup in localized cleaning tasks. The cotton core provides capacity and retention, while the polyurethane foam exterior creates a softer, more controlled contact surface for working in corners, seams, and recessed features.

It is commonly used for solvent cleaning, lubricant and adhesive removal, and general cleanup where residues need to be lifted and retained rather than spread across the surface.
