Texwipe STX1704P: A sterile, sealed-edge 4" × 4" presaturated wiper engineered for repeatable 70% IPA delivery
Last reviewed: Jan. 4, 2026 | Audience: contamination control, cleanroom operations, EHS, quality
Pre-wetted wipes look deceptively simple: fabric plus solvent. In real cleanrooms, they function more like a controlled “dispensing system” for chemistry and contamination control. If the substrate sheds, if the edge frays, if the wetness varies, or if packaging allows evaporation, operators will compensate—often by re-wetting, over-wiping, or scrubbing—raising particle, residue, and VOC variability across shifts.
Texwipe STX1704P (Revolve™, 4" × 4") is positioned as a sterile, presaturated wiper built to standardize wipe performance and solvent application: sealed-edge upcycled polyester, presaturated USP-grade 70% IPA / 30% DI water (0.2 µm filtered), supplied in resealable slider packaging, and supported by lot traceability and sterilization documentation. The goal is repeatability—so the wiping method becomes the controlled variable, not the wipe.
What it’s for
STX1704P is intended for sterile wipe-down and routine cleaning where consistent solvent delivery matters: transfer wipe-down, point-of-use cleaning of small tools and fixtures, glovebox/isolator touchpoints, and spot cleaning of equipment panels, carts, and work surfaces. The 4" × 4" format is a practical choice when you want tight control of wipe contact area, folding, and discard discipline (especially in aseptic or high-sensitivity zones).
Decision drivers
Use these drivers to decide whether a sterile presaturated polyester wiper is the right tool—or whether you should move to a different substrate, edge strategy, or presaturation format.
- Solvent control (70% IPA / 30% DI water): Presaturation helps standardize coverage and contact time, reducing operator-driven variability versus spray-and-wipe methods.
- Edge strategy (sealed edge): Sealed edges are selected to reduce fraying and limit particle/fiber release from cut borders during wiping and folding.
- Sterile packaging discipline: Triple-bagged sterile packaging supports aseptic transfer practices and reduces handling risk at the point of use.
- Traceability: Lot coding and available compliance/sterilization documentation matter when QA needs audit-grade control of consumables.
- Format (4" × 4"): Small-format wipes naturally support “use-and-discard” technique discipline, which is often where contamination control is won or lost.
Materials and construction
STX1704P uses 100% upcycled polyester (rPET) as the wiping substrate. Polyester is widely selected for critical cleaning because it maintains strength when wet, is compatible with common cleanroom solvents, and can be processed to low extractables and controlled particle/fiber release. In the Revolve™ platform, the polymer feedstock is reclaimed and reprocessed; the manufacturer positions the material as comparable in performance characteristics to virgin polyester, while reducing landfill waste and environmental impact.
The edge is sealed to control border shedding during wiping, folding, and corner use. In practice, sealed-edge construction matters most when operators apply pressure, rotate the wipe, or use the wipe edge to “squeegee” along a gasket, flange, or rail—exactly the behaviors that cause cut-edge wipers to fray and shed.
Specifications in context
Size: 4" × 4" is typically selected for controlled wipe paths, tight geometries, and high discard discipline. Type: pre-wet wiper (presaturated) supports repeatable solvent application. Edge: sealed edge reduces border-related shedding risk. Sterile: yes. Packaging: sold as 4 bags of 50 wipes per case (200 wipes/case). Environment guidance: manufacturer literature commonly cites ISO Class 3–7 and EU Grade A–D; the SOSCleanroom listing indicates an ISO 4 (Class 10) through ISO 8 (Class 100,000) range. When there is a published range mismatch, default to your facility’s risk assessment and adopt the more conservative interpretation for critical steps.
Cleanliness and performance metrics
A practical way to evaluate wipers is to separate what can redeposit (particles/fibers), what can extract into product-contact surfaces (NVR), and what can drive ionic risk (ions). Manufacturer values are typically reported as “typical analyses” and should be treated as starting points for selection and qualification—not universal guarantees across all process conditions.
For Revolve™ wipers, typical published values include: ≥0.5 µm particles at 5.5 × 106 particles/m² and fibers >100 µm at ~300 fibers/m²; nonvolatile residue (NVR) of 0.05 g/m² (IPA extractant) and 0.01 g/m² (DI water extractant); and low ionic typicals such as Na 0.08 ppm, K 0.03 ppm, and Cl 0.04 ppm. Physical performance typicals include 450 mL/m² sorptive capacity, 0.3 s sorptive rate, and 125 g/m² basis weight. In operations terms: these values support use where you want the wipe to remove soils while minimizing redeposit and extractables—provided technique and discard discipline are controlled.
Packaging, sterility, and traceability controls
STX1704P is presaturated with 0.2 µm filtered USP-grade 70% IPA / 30% DI water and packaged in recloseable slider bags to reduce evaporation and preserve consistent wetness. Sterile Revolve™ products are described as triple-bagged with a case liner as an added protection layer, and gamma irradiated to a 10−6 sterility assurance level per AAMI-aligned guidance. Wipes are individually lot coded to support traceability, and certificates (compliance/analysis/irradiation) are described as available.
Rule of thumb: Treat a resealable presaturated bag like a controlled dispensing device—open only long enough to remove what you will use immediately, then reseal fully. If the bag stays open, wetness uniformity and wipe performance drift fast.
Best-practice use
To increase customer value (and reduce cleaning variability), pair the right wipe with a repeatable wiping method. For presaturated IPA wipes, focus on controlled wipe paths, folding discipline, and evaporation management.
- Fold to create “clean faces”: Use a consistent fold (quarters are common for 4" × 4") and rotate to a fresh face as soon as the wipe shows visible soil or starts to drag.
- One direction, overlapping strokes: Wipe in one direction with slight overlap. Avoid circular scrubbing unless a written procedure calls for it; circles tend to redeposit contamination.
- Edge-use discipline: Use the sealed edge intentionally for straight-line “pull” wipes along rails or seams, then discard. Do not “saw” back and forth.
- Contact time reality check: Presaturated 70% IPA supports wetting, but small wipes can flash off quickly. If your SOP requires a minimum wet contact time, verify the surface stays wet long enough—or move up in wipe size/format.
- Flammability controls: 60%–70% IPA pre-wetted wipes are a flammable article. Use closed waste containers, avoid ignition sources, and follow facility EHS storage/quantity limits for IPA-containing consumables.
Common failure modes
The most common failures with presaturated wipes are procedural, not material: (1) bag left open leading to uneven wetness and higher wipe-to-wipe variability; (2) re-wetting with uncontrolled spray bottles that changes solvent ratio and increases VOC spikes; (3) overuse of one wipe face causing redeposition; and (4) incorrect waste handling for IPA-containing wipes. Prevent these with simple controls: set an “open-bag” time limit, standardize fold/rotation, define discard triggers, and align EHS waste practices with IPA flammability guidance.
Closest competitors
Contec PROSAT® Sterile Sigma™ (70% IPA / 30% DI water): A sterile presaturated program that emphasizes consistent saturation and VOC control, typically built around a cellulose/polyester nonwoven substrate (different substrate mechanics and sorption behavior than sealed-edge polyester knit).
Other sterile presaturated IPA wipe programs: Many competitors offer similar 70/30 IPA/DIW saturation, but differentiation usually comes down to edge treatment, packaging that limits evaporation, sterility validation documentation, and how tightly typical contamination metrics are characterized for the substrate family.
Where it fits in a cleanroom wiping program
STX1704P fits as a point-of-use sterile IPA wipe for small-area wipe-downs where repeatability, sealed-edge construction, and documentation matter. In a tiered wiping program, it is commonly used in higher-control zones for routine disinfection-support wipe-down (where your disinfectant program allows IPA), final prep of items before transfer, and spot cleaning between more intensive cleaning cycles. Escalate to larger presaturated formats or validated sporicidal/disinfectant systems when surface area, soil load, or microbial control requirements exceed what a small IPA wipe can reliably support.
Terminology note: Engineered for low-linting performance; no wiper is truly “lint-free” in every process condition.
