The Age of the Cleanroom

26th Oct 2015

SOS Cleanrooms is at the epicenter of a huge technology revolution. Since the invention of cleanrooms, they have blossomed into a worldwide industry that supports essential manufacturing for our modern world. SOS, a leader in consumable cleanroom products such as Texwipe swabs and wipes is proud to be part of making the world a better place by supporting industries that free the world of disease and provide modern technologies.

All over the world, new state-of-the-art cleanrooms are being build. From CanSino’s large fully-integrated Ebola Vaccine plant in China, to a new TriLink facility in San Diego.

Growth in this sector is projected to continue. The cleanroom technology market reached a global value of $3.0 billion. North America accounts for 1.2 billion of this, this being the largest share, followed by Europe with Asian countries of China and India rapidly increasing investments in cleanroom technology.

So many industries depend on cleanroom for the safe, effective manufacturing of their products. These products can be any number of things: from pharmaceuticals to electronics. As our understanding of the nature of a cleanroom expands, our reactions to that change and shift. As we learn how contaminants move and behave in airflow, we can change the design of a clean room to minimize contamination of products.

There are two main aspects to a cleanroom. The first of these is the actual facility. This includes the hard walls, soft walls, terminal and pass through boxes, equipment such as diffusers, showers, HVAC systems, bio-safety cabinets etc, and consumables such as Texwipe cleaning wipes and disinfectants. Of these three sectors it is the consumables that is showing the fastest rate of growth. The newest technology is all about miniaturization, semiconductors and nanotechnology. The smaller the technology goes, the more important it will be to keep even the smallest particle out of the works.
