KleenVision™ Premium Anti-Fog Performance

Fogging occurs when warm, moisture-containing air contacts a cooler lens surface and forms microscopic droplets. These droplets scatter light and can obscure tools, workpieces, labels, equipment controls, walking surfaces, and other task-critical visual information.

The Maverick 49301 uses KleenVision™ premium anti-fog technology. Ansell states that the coating is engineered to deliver anti-fog performance 100 times greater than the ANSI Z87.1-2020 “X” mark requirement and exceeds the EN 166 “N” mark test for resistance to fogging.

  • Helps maintain visibility in humid work areas
  • Supports clearer vision during temperature transitions
  • Helps reduce fogging associated with masks, respirators, hoods, and face coverings
  • Can reduce repeated eyewear removal, wiping, and adjustment
  • Helps limit task interruptions caused by condensation
  • Supports more consistent use of required protective eyewear
  • Can reduce face-touch behavior caused by obscured vision
EN 166 “K” Scratch-Resistance Performance

Ansell identifies product code 49301 as passing the EN 166 “K” mark test for resistance to surface damage by fine particles. This performance supports improved lens durability in environments where airborne dust, fine debris, or routine handling could otherwise reduce optical clarity.

The hardcoat improves abrasion resistance but does not make the lens scratch-proof. Abrasive wiping, metal fragments, contaminated cloths, rough storage surfaces, and incompatible cleaners can still permanently damage the polycarbonate lens.

Integrated Partial Brow Guard

The Maverick frame incorporates an integrated partial brow guard above the lens. This upper-frame structure helps increase coverage from nuisance dust and falling particles while also reducing some glare entering from above.

  • Adds coverage along the upper lens area
  • Helps reduce direct entry of nuisance dust from above
  • Helps limit overhead light entering above the lens
  • Provides a more substantial protective profile than a fully frameless spectacle
  • Maintains a modern, wearable appearance intended to support employee acceptance
Clear Integrated Side Shields

Clear side shields are integrated into the frame to extend coverage toward the sides of the eyes while maintaining lateral visibility. Because the side protection is built into the frame, there are no separate removable side-shield components to install, lose, or incorrectly position.

Design Feature Practical Benefit
Integrated clear side shields Extends lateral coverage while preserving peripheral visibility
Partial brow guard Adds upper coverage from nuisance dust and overhead light
Clear frame structure Reduces the visual obstruction associated with opaque frame components
Single integrated assembly Eliminates separately attached side shields that can be lost or incorrectly installed
Padded Nose and Temple Comfort Points

The Maverick design includes padded nose contact and soft-touch temple points intended to reduce pressure and help prevent slippage. These comfort features are important for workers who wear eye protection continuously throughout a production shift.

  • Padded nose contact helps distribute pressure
  • Soft-touch temple areas help reduce side pressure
  • Grip surfaces help limit downward or forward movement
  • Comfort-focused fit supports extended use
  • Orange contact points provide visual identification of the 49301 clear-frame configuration
  • Stable positioning can reduce repeated face and eyewear touching
Clear Lens and Indoor Task Visibility

The clear polycarbonate lens is intended for indoor and normally illuminated work where natural color recognition, inspection accuracy, and high light transmission are required. It avoids the color shift and brightness reduction associated with smoke, mirror, or other tinted lens options.

  • Supports natural color recognition
  • Suitable for indoor manufacturing and assembly
  • Supports laboratory, inspection, and quality-control tasks
  • Helps maintain visibility in warehouses and facility spaces
  • Appropriate where tinted lenses could reduce available task illumination
  • Provides ultraviolet filtration without a dark sunglass-style tint
Impact Protection and Canadian Certification

Current Ansell documentation identifies the Maverick product family as manufactured to comply with ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2020, rated Z87+ for high-velocity impact, and certified to CSA Z94.3:20.

These classifications support occupational spectacle use but do not convert the glasses into sealed goggles. Chemical splash, fine dust, aerosols, welding radiation, laser radiation, molten materials, or full-face hazards may require additional or different protection.

Recommended Applications
  • Manufacturing and production operations
  • Automotive assembly, repair, and maintenance
  • Inspection, checking, and quality-control tasks
  • Construction and general site work
  • Facility and equipment maintenance
  • Warehousing, shipping, receiving, and material handling
  • Oil, gas, petrochemical, and energy operations
  • Laboratory-support and technical work
  • Humid or temperature-variable work areas
  • Tasks requiring masks, respirators, hoods, or protective headgear
  • Indoor work requiring clear lenses and natural color recognition
  • General occupational eye-protection programs
Controlled Environment Considerations

The anti-fog coating, padded fit system, and clear side coverage may help reduce eyewear removal and adjustment in controlled work areas. However, industrial safety certification does not establish sterility, ISO cleanroom classification, low particle release, low outgassing, disinfectant compatibility, or suitability for aseptic processing.

  • Evaluate the glasses under the facility’s contamination-control strategy before use
  • Assign eyewear by employee or controlled area when practical
  • Handle the glasses by the temples rather than the lens
  • Complete fit adjustments before entering the critical work zone
  • Do not place eyewear directly on benches, carts, gowning seats, or critical surfaces
  • Do not transfer eyewear between uncontrolled and controlled areas without approved cleaning
  • Use only facility-approved cleaners and compatible low-lint wipes
  • Inspect for haze, residue, scratches, coating damage, and retained contamination
  • Replace the glasses when they no longer meet facility visibility or cleanliness criteria
Cleaning, Inspection and Storage

Clean the lens using an approved optical cleaner, mild soap and water, or another validated facility procedure. Remove loose abrasive particles before wiping and use a soft, non-abrasive optical tissue, microfiber cloth, or approved cleanroom wiper.

  • Do not dry wipe when dust, grit, or metal particles are present
  • Do not use abrasive shop towels, scouring materials, or rough paper products
  • Avoid unapproved solvents and aggressive disinfectants
  • Do not aggressively polish or scrub the anti-fog treatment
  • Inspect the lens, frame, side shields, brow guard, nose pads, temples, and safety markings before use
  • Replace glasses with cracks, chips, deep scratches, distortion, haze, coating damage, or insecure fit
  • Remove the eyewear from service after a significant impact
  • Store in a cool, clean, and dry location away from direct sunlight
  • Use a protective case, sleeve, or designated compartment to reduce lens abrasion
  • Store cleaned eyewear separately from contaminated PPE
Important Use Limitations

The KleenGuard Maverick 49301 is designed for general occupational impact protection, clear indoor visibility, premium anti-fog performance, scratch resistance, ultraviolet filtration, and enhanced upper and lateral spectacle coverage. It is not a sealed chemical-splash goggle, dust-tight goggle, gas-tight protector, welding lens, laser-protective device, electrical arc-flash protector, molten-metal protector, or substitute for a face shield where full-face protection is required. Integrated side shields and a partial brow guard improve coverage but do not create a sealed enclosure. Final selection must be based on the employer’s documented hazard assessment and individual fit verification.

Packaging Clarification

The SOSCleanroom selling quantity for SKU 49301 is 12 safety glasses per case. Some manufacturer and distributor logistics records may reference a larger master carton containing multiple 12-pair inner packages. The larger logistics quantity should not be presented as the customer purchase unit unless confirmed by the active SOSCleanroom inventory and purchasing record.

Standards and Protective Performance

Current Ansell documentation identifies the Maverick product family as manufactured to comply with ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2020, rated Z87+ for high-velocity impact, and certified to CSA Z94.3-20. These classifications apply to occupational spectacle-style eye protection and should be interpreted together with the product markings, current manufacturer literature, and the employer’s hazard assessment.

Earlier distributor or legacy product records may use the shorter ANSI Z87.1+ wording. Current catalog content should use ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2020 as the principal U.S. standard reference while preserving historical wording only where needed for older purchasing records or lot-specific documentation.

Standard or Rating Technical Meaning
ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2020 Current U.S. occupational eye and face protection standard referenced by Ansell
Z87+ High-impact designation under the applicable ANSI/ISEA spectacle requirements
CSA Z94.3-20 Canadian occupational eye and face protector certification referenced by Ansell
EN 166 “N” Resistance-to-fogging performance; Ansell states that KleenVision™ exceeds this test
EN 166 “K” Resistance to surface damage by fine particles; specifically identified by Ansell for code 49301
99.9% UVA / UVB / UVC filtration Polycarbonate lens filtration intended to help reduce occupational ultraviolet exposure
Impact-Rating Interpretation

The Z87+ designation addresses high-impact performance under the applicable spectacle requirements. It does not mean the glasses provide complete enclosure or protection against every eye and face hazard.

  • High-impact certification does not make the eyewear chemical-splash goggles
  • Integrated side shields do not make the glasses dust-tight or gas-tight
  • The partial brow guard does not create a sealed upper barrier
  • A compatible face shield may be required in addition to primary eye protection
  • Welding, cutting, brazing, and laser work require specialized optical filters
  • Fine dust, aerosols, liquid splash, or multidirectional hazards may require goggles
  • Damaged eyewear must be removed from service regardless of its original certification
KleenVision™ Premium Anti-Fog Technology

Lens fogging occurs when warm, moisture-containing air contacts a cooler lens surface and condenses into microscopic droplets. These droplets scatter light and may obscure tools, workpieces, labels, process indicators, walking surfaces, or equipment controls.

The Maverick 49301 uses KleenVision™ premium anti-fog technology. Ansell states that the coating is engineered to deliver anti-fog performance 100 times greater than the ANSI Z87.1-2020 “X” mark requirement and that it exceeds the EN 166 “N” mark test for resistance to fogging.

  • Helps maintain visibility in humid work areas
  • Supports clearer vision during temperature transitions
  • Helps reduce fogging associated with masks, respirators, hoods, and face coverings
  • Can reduce repeated eyewear removal, wiping, and adjustment
  • Helps limit interruptions caused by condensation
  • Supports more consistent eye-protection use
  • May reduce face-touch behavior caused by obscured vision
Anti-Fog Performance Limitations

Anti-fog treatment reduces the likelihood, severity, or duration of fogging but does not guarantee completely fog-free vision under every condition. Performance can be affected by humidity, temperature difference, physical exertion, respirator exhaust, airflow, contamination, cleaning technique, coating wear, and chemical exposure.

  • Check mask and respirator fit when warm air is directed toward the lens
  • Evaluate hood placement and airflow when recurring fogging occurs
  • Do not aggressively polish or scrub the coated surface
  • Do not apply unapproved household anti-fog treatments
  • Avoid chemicals that may degrade the anti-fog coating
  • Replace the glasses when fog resistance becomes visibly uneven or ineffective
EN 166 “K” Surface-Damage Resistance

Ansell specifically identifies code 49301 as passing the EN 166 “K” mark test for resistance to surface damage by fine particles. This is more precise than a general statement that the product has a scratch-resistant coating because the manufacturer associates this SKU with a defined European surface-damage test.

The EN 166 “K” performance supports improved durability where fine airborne debris or routine industrial handling could degrade lens clarity. It does not make the lens scratch-proof.

  • Remove grit and loose particles before wiping
  • Do not dry wipe when metal dust or abrasive debris is present
  • Avoid rough paper towels, shop rags, and abrasive tissues
  • Do not store the lens against tools, fasteners, or unfinished surfaces
  • Replace the eyewear when scratches interfere with vision or inspection accuracy
  • Do not interpret the “K” performance as resistance to all chemical or mechanical damage
Combined Lens-Protection System

The 49301 lens combines several protective functions in one clear polycarbonate structure. Each characteristic addresses a different operational requirement.

Lens Feature Practical Benefit
Clear polycarbonate lens Combines clear indoor visibility, low weight, impact performance, and UV filtration
KleenVision™ anti-fog treatment Helps reduce visibility loss caused by condensation
EN 166 “N” performance Documents resistance-to-fogging performance
EN 166 “K” performance Documents resistance to surface damage by fine particles
99.9% UVA / UVB / UVC filtration Helps reduce occupational ultraviolet exposure
Z87+ high-impact performance Supports occupational programs requiring high-impact spectacle protection
Clear Lens and Indoor Task Visibility

The clear lens is intended primarily for normally illuminated indoor work where natural color recognition, label reading, inspection accuracy, and clear task visibility are important. It does not provide sunglass-style brightness reduction or directional glare filtration.

  • Supports natural color recognition
  • Suitable for indoor manufacturing and assembly
  • Supports laboratory-support, inspection, and quality-control tasks
  • Helps maintain visibility in warehouses and facility areas
  • Appropriate where a tinted lens could reduce available task illumination
  • Provides UV filtration without a dark tint
  • May be unsuitable for intense exterior brightness without further evaluation
Integrated Partial Brow Guard

The Maverick frame incorporates an integrated partial brow guard above the lens. Ansell describes this feature as providing a sense of protection from falling dusts and reducing glare entering from above.

The brow component increases upper-frame coverage compared with a completely frameless design, but it does not create a sealed barrier against fine particles, aerosols, or liquids.

  • Adds coverage along the upper lens area
  • Helps reduce direct entry of nuisance dust from above
  • Helps limit some overhead light entering above the lens
  • Provides a more substantial upper profile than frameless safety glasses
  • Must be evaluated for compatibility with hard hats and face shields
  • Should not be represented as sealed brow protection
Integrated Clear Side Shields

Clear side shields are integrated into the frame to extend coverage toward the lateral areas of the eyes while preserving peripheral visibility. Because the side protection is built into the frame, there are no separate removable shield components to lose, omit, or install incorrectly.

Design Feature Practical Benefit
Integrated clear side shields Extends lateral coverage while preserving side vision
Partial brow guard Adds upper coverage from nuisance dust and overhead light
Clear frame structure Helps reduce visual obstruction associated with opaque frame components
Single integrated assembly Eliminates separately attached side shields that can be lost or improperly positioned
Padded Nose Contact and Soft-Touch Temples

The Maverick design includes padded nose contact and soft-touch temple points intended to reduce pressure, improve grip, and help prevent slippage during extended use.

  • Padded nose contact helps distribute pressure
  • Soft-touch temple areas help reduce side pressure
  • Thermoplastic-rubber contact points support grip and retention
  • Stable positioning can reduce repeated face and eyewear touching
  • Orange contact points provide quick visual identification of this configuration
  • Comfort-focused design may support all-shift wear compliance
Material Construction

Current Ansell product details identify polycarbonate, thermoplastic rubber, and stainless-steel screw components in the Maverick construction.

Material Functional Role
Polycarbonate Primary lens and rigid protective-frame construction
Thermoplastic rubber Soft comfort, grip, nose, and temple contact areas
Stainless-steel screws Mechanical attachment components within the frame or temple assembly
Wear Compliance and Human Factors

Safety eyewear is effective only when it remains properly worn. Glasses that fog, pinch, slide, obstruct vision, or create uncomfortable pressure are more likely to be removed or incorrectly positioned.

Potential Wear Issue Maverick Design Response
Fogging obscures vision KleenVision™ premium anti-fog treatment
Temple or nose pressure Padded nose contact and soft-touch temple points
Glasses slide during work Grip-oriented comfort contact surfaces
Concern about side exposure Integrated clear side shields
Concern about falling nuisance dust Integrated partial brow guard
Fine-particle abrasion reduces clarity SKU-specific EN 166 “K” surface-damage resistance
Fit Verification Procedure
  1. Place the glasses on the wearer without excessively spreading the temple arms.
  2. Confirm that the padded nose contact sits securely without painful pressure.
  3. Verify that the clear lens is centered in front of both eyes.
  4. Inspect the lateral coverage provided by the integrated side shields.
  5. Confirm that the partial brow guard does not obstruct required upward vision.
  6. Ask the wearer to look upward, downward, and from side to side.
  7. Ask the wearer to bend, turn, walk, and perform representative work movements.
  8. Verify that the glasses remain secure without repeated adjustment.
  9. Repeat the assessment with all required head, hearing, respiratory, and face protection.
Recommended Applications and Industries
  • Automotive assembly, repair, and maintenance
  • Manufacturing and production operations
  • Assembly, inspection, checking, and quality control
  • Construction and general site work
  • Facility and equipment maintenance
  • Warehousing, shipping, receiving, and material handling
  • Oil, gas, petrochemical, and energy operations
  • Laboratory-support and technical work
  • Humid or temperature-variable work areas
  • Tasks requiring masks, respirators, hoods, or protective headgear
  • Indoor work requiring clear lenses and natural color recognition
  • General occupational eye-protection programs
PPE Compatibility Assessment

The Maverick glasses must be evaluated with the complete PPE ensemble. Hard hats, masks, respirators, earmuffs, hoods, face shields, and protective garments can alter frame position, redirect airflow, create pressure points, or reduce coverage.

  • Confirm that hard-hat suspension components do not contact the partial brow guard
  • Ensure temples do not interfere with tight-fitting respirator sealing surfaces
  • Check whether mask or respirator airflow is directed toward the lens
  • Verify that earmuff cushions remain fully seated around the ears
  • Confirm that face-shield brackets do not displace the glasses
  • Check compatibility with hoods, bouffants, and head coverings
  • Verify secure positioning during representative work movement
  • Do not force the glasses over prescription eyewear unless specifically evaluated
Hazard Assessment Guidance

The employer should identify the source, direction, frequency, duration, and severity of each eye hazard before selecting protection. Spectacle-style eyewear may be appropriate for general impact and particle exposure but may not provide sufficient enclosure for liquid splash, fine dust, aerosols, or multidirectional hazards.

Hazard Selection Consideration
Flying particles and general impact Confirm that Z87+ spectacle protection and the frame coverage are adequate
Falling nuisance dust Partial brow coverage may help, but greater enclosure may be required for fine or hazardous dust
Chemical splash Use chemical-splash goggles or another appropriately enclosed protector
Fine dust or aerosol Evaluate goggles or another protector with greater enclosure
Full-face impact or splash Add a compatible face shield while retaining appropriate primary eye protection
Welding, cutting, or brazing radiation Use task-specific filter lenses with the required shade designation
Laser radiation Use wavelength-specific laser eyewear with verified optical density
Intense exterior glare Evaluate an appropriate tinted or polarized configuration rather than this clear lens
Controlled Environment Considerations

Industrial eye-protection certification and cleanroom suitability are separate determinations. ANSI/ISEA and CSA compliance do not establish sterility, ISO cleanroom classification, low particle release, low outgassing, disinfectant compatibility, or suitability for aseptic processing.

The anti-fog treatment and stable comfort contact points may help reduce eyewear removal and face-touch adjustment in controlled work areas. However, the partial brow guard, side shields, hinges, screws, padded components, and frame interfaces should be evaluated under the facility’s material-control and cleaning program.

  • Evaluate the glasses under the facility’s contamination-control strategy before use
  • Assign eyewear by employee or controlled area when practical
  • Stage cleaned eyewear on the designated clean side of the gowning process
  • Handle the glasses by the temples rather than the lens
  • Complete fit adjustments before entering the critical work zone
  • Do not place eyewear directly on benches, carts, gowning seats, or critical surfaces
  • Do not transfer eyewear between uncontrolled and controlled areas without approved cleaning
  • Use only facility-approved cleaning agents and compatible low-lint wipes
  • Inspect around side shields, brow components, hinges, and comfort pads for retained residue
  • Replace the glasses when they no longer meet facility visibility or cleanliness criteria
Cleanroom Donning and Handling Guidance
  1. Inspect the eyewear before beginning the gowning sequence.
  2. Clean or disinfect the glasses according to the approved facility procedure.
  3. Inspect the side-shield, brow, hinge, nose, and temple interfaces for retained residue.
  4. Stage the eyewear in the designated clean-side location.
  5. Handle the glasses only by approved contact points such as the temples.
  6. Don the eyewear at the step specified by the gowning SOP.
  7. Complete fit positioning before final glove donning when permitted.
  8. Confirm compatibility with the mask, respirator, hood, bouffant, and face shield.
  9. Avoid touching or readjusting the glasses inside the critical work area.
  10. Follow the defined deviation procedure if the eyewear is dropped, displaced, contaminated, or heavily fogged.
Cleaning Procedure
  1. Wash and dry hands or don clean gloves as required by the work area.
  2. Inspect the lens for loose dust, grit, metal particles, dried residue, or abrasive contamination.
  3. Remove loose particles with clean air or a gentle water rinse when permitted.
  4. Apply an approved optical cleaner, mild soap and water, or another validated cleaning solution.
  5. Wipe gently using a soft optical tissue, microfiber cloth, or approved cleanroom wiper.
  6. Clean the side shields, brow guard, nose pads, temples, and hinge areas without forcing debris into joints.
  7. Avoid aggressive pressure or repeated polishing of the anti-fog surface.
  8. Rinse where required to remove cleaner residue.
  9. Dry using a clean, soft, non-abrasive material.
  10. Inspect the lens, coatings, side shields, brow guard, nose pads, temples, screws, and safety markings before reuse.

Chemical compatibility note: Strong solvents, aggressive disinfectants, high-pH cleaners, abrasive compounds, and incompatible chemicals may craze polycarbonate, degrade the anti-fog treatment, damage the scratch-resistant coating, discolor the clear frame, degrade thermoplastic-rubber comfort points, or weaken the assembly. Where repeated disinfection is required, validate the exact chemical, concentration, contact time, application method, rinse procedure, and cleaning frequency.

Inspection and Replacement Criteria

Current Ansell documentation identifies ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2020 compliance, Z87+ high-velocity impact performance, CSA Z94.3-20 certification, KleenVision™ anti-fog performance, EN 166 “N” fog resistance, SKU-specific EN 166 “K” surface-damage resistance, polycarbonate construction, thermoplastic-rubber comfort components, stainless-steel screws, 99.9% UVA/UVB/UVC filtration, one-size fit, and RightCycle™ eligibility. Where certification traceability is required, verify the documentation applicable to the supplied production lot.

Brand and Product Documentation Note

KleenGuard™ protective eyewear was historically marketed through Kimberly-Clark Professional and may appear under Kimberly-Clark Professional, Jackson Safety, KleenGuard™, or Ansell in historical and current documentation. Current product-page content should use the active Ansell portfolio identity while preserving the established KleenGuard™ V30 Maverick™ name and manufacturer code 49301.
