How to Properly Wear and Breathe Through a Face Mask

28th Sep 2015

Face masks are a must in any clean room.

As important as face masks are, you have to know how to wear them and breathe through them properly in order for them to work as they should. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, wearing a mask incorrectly could actually increase the transmission risk, rather than reduce it.  At SOS Cleanroom, not only do we offer a huge selection of high-quality clean room supplies, we also want to help you make the most out of them! That's why our experts have come up with this guide on how to properly wear and breathe through a face mask:

#1. Wash your hands!

Before you put your mask on, you should always wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap. If antibacterial soap isn't available, a disinfectant that contains alcohol will suffice. If you feel that your mask has become contaminated at any time while wearing it, leave the room, take your old mask off, wash your hands and put a new one on.

#2. Make sure that your mask fits properly over your nose and mouth.

Your mask needs to fit securely over both your nose and mouth. While it's true that this is less comfortable than keeping either your mouth or you nose uncovered, safety should always be your top priority when working in a clean room, so you may have to put up with a little bit of discomfort.
